〖語法〗 ［inと(( into］ in は「中に［で］」という位置を表し， 通例運動の方向を示さないが， それ自身が運動・動作を表す dive， fall， jump， put， throw， thrust；break， cut， divide， fold などの動詞と共に用いると into の代りに in が用いられることがある. この場合， 動作よりも結果としての状態に重点がある. たとえば jump in the river では jump (into the river and be) in the river の圧縮表現と考えられる.
